Frequently Asked Questions

1. What type of photographers do you work with?

I specialize in consulting with commercial and editorial photographers—and I also collaborate with photo agents and stylists. My services are tailored for those seeking to reach clients with actual budgets and elevate their creative business approach.

2. What is your background? Why do you understand this industry?

I bring over a decade of experience in the photography world—as a studio assistant, production coordinator, commercial agent, and now consultant. I've worked with photographers and illustrators for clients across advertising, editorial, and Fortune 500 brands.

3. What services do you offer?

I offer several targeted, high-impact services:

  • Marketing Audit + Plan: A 20–40-page PDF deep dive into your marketing, brand positioning, outreach strategy, SEO, portfolio gaps, and client targeting. Comes with a mandatory follow-up call.

  • Website Portfolio Edit: Full portfolio curation, SEO, styling, sequencing, and editing—sending many images is encouraged for depth, with a typical turnaround of 1–2 months. Unlimited revisions.

  • Email Promos (Template Design): Branded newsletter templates, initial collaboration on first issue, plus optional guidance on building or enhancing your mailing list (Agency Access discount code included).

  • Creative Consulting: Brainstorming sessions for test shoots, marketing materials, and portfolio direction.

4. How are consultations conducted?

All consultations take place over Zoom by default, unless you prefer an alternative arrangement.

5. What should clients expect between sessions?

Each meeting includes homework—actionable steps to complete before the next session. I'm also available via email for guidance and questions.

6. Why should I hire you instead of doing this myself?

  • Your objectivity is your superpower—but when you're too close to your work, it's hard to see presentation gaps or market positioning issues. You’ll gain clarity, focus, and actionable feedback tailored specifically to your business.

  • You've likely hit plateaus—the targeted strategy, client outreach guidance, and portfolio alignment I provide help move you toward better clients more efficiently.

7. Where are you based? Can you work with me?

While the contact phone number alternates between locations (MD and CA area codes), I serve clients throughout the U.S. and internationally. All work is done virtually via Zoom. Julie Skarwecki Consulting+1

8. How do I get started?

Start by scheduling a free15-minute consultation. That’s the simplest way to determine next steps and the best service for your needs.

The Important Stuff:

  • Description text goes here
  • I do! While my clients are primarily US-based, I have worked with photographers in Canada, the UK, France, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Iceland, and Singapore.

No location is too far, unless you’re in a remote region with no access to WiFi.

  • While not all reps are created equal, their primary function is to manage client relationships and negotiate on behalf of the photographer and in the photographer’s best interest.

A consultant is more like a creative and business teammate who focuses on career growth. Together, we focus on fine-tuning your positioning, establishing and implementing a marketing strategy, strengthening your portfolio - whatever will best help you reach your current goals.

This can be done in conjunction with an agent, but it doesn’t need to. Our main focus is your business, your career, and how we can keep you moving forward.

  • Clients often describe working with me as having “an objective, strategic perspective that shifts your career direction,” calling me “supportive, generous, and insightful.” Most have landed bigger clients, improved conversion, and seen tangible growth in just a few months.

Additionally, working with a consultant can bring more confidence into the way you approach your business.
